When you arrive in Denmark, the first thing you must do is get your Residence Permit. The International Office will help you through this process. When you have received your Residence Permit, you need to be registered at the Citizen Service (Folkeregister) of your kommune (municipality) and get your CPR number and the Yellow Card. The address of your Citizen Service depends on your personal address. Please check with your land-lord, the name of the municipality where you live. The CPR number is used when dealing with public authorities, health authorities, banks etc. You also need a CPR number to get a tax card, which is necessary when you get a job.The procedure is described belowStudents from Nordic countriesIf you are a Nordic citizen, you are free to live, study and work in Denmark. After your arrival in Denmark you should contact your local Danish National Citizen Service (in your kommune - municipality), which will then issue you a Central Persons Register number (CPR number). No other documentation is necessary. Students from EU countriesIf your stay in Denmark lasts more than three months, you must register at the national Citizen Service (Folkeregister) in the municipality (kommune) where you live in Denmark. Remember to bring your passport, your Residence Permit and proof of legal domicile in Denmark (e.g. tenancy contract with your name on it). Students from all other countriesIf your stay in Denmark lasts more than three months, you have already received a Residence Permit together with your visa, from the Danish Embassy or consulate in your home country. In this case, you may apply directly for the CPR number, at the national Citizen Service from your municipality (kommune). You must bring along your passport and proof of legal domicile in Denmark (e.g. tenancy contract with your name on it) Changing your addressIf you change your address during your stay in Denmark, you must inform the new municipality (kommune) latest 5 days after you have moved. In some cases, you can do this online, on the website of your new municipality. Please check with your land-lord or one of your class-mates who might already live in that municipality. Otherwise, please ask for a "Flyttemappe" at the nearest Post Office. The documents inside must be filled-in and sent to the Citzen Service of your new municipality and to the post office. Leaving DenmarkAfter your studies in Denmark are finished, and before you leave the country, you must notify your local Citizen Service, which will then cancel your personal registration certificate.
