alt

A. Visa

Nordic students and students from EU countries do not need a visa to travel to Denmark.

Students that come from a non-EU country need a visa. Please check with the Danish Embassy or Consulate in your home country if you are in doubt.

You may also find information on the Danish Immigration Service.

Information on Danish Embassies and consulates is available on the website of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Please note that you must apply for a visa at least 3 months before your planned departure to Denmark.

B. Residence Permit

It is a very good idea to study the New to Denmark website before coming to Denmark. The website belongs to the Danish Immigration Service and it contains valuable information about travelling, getting registered and integrating in Denmark.

a. Nordic citizens

Students from Nordic Countries need no residence permit. However, they must get register at the local Citizen Service, in order to obtain a CPR number and a yellow card.

b. EU-citizens

Students from EU member countries need a residence permit if they stay more than 3 months.

You can apply for your residence permit as soon as you have arived in Denmark, but no earlier than 3 weeks before sthe study start. This is the normal procedure.

The residence permit is the first step of your national registration, and it is followed by getting a CPR number and a yellow card. The CPR number is necessary for medical coverage under the Danish Health Service, to open a bank account, to have a taxation card etc.

In order to get a Residence Permit, you need the following:
  • An application form for Residence Permit, which you can download from the website of the Regional State Administration (Statsforvaltningen).
  • 1 photo of yourself (passport format)
  • Your passport
